ONGOING CLASS SCHEDULE - APRIL 2014

 

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Hatha yoga is a physical practice that unifies the body, the mind, the heart and the spirit. With integration of intention, breath and posture (asana), flexibility, strength, balance, concentration and relaxation skills are attained and improved.  Maintains the healthy function of joints, organs and gland systems. The practice of yoga brings a state of clarity, focus, physical power and a sense of peace and grace. All of our classes are Hatha, unless specified otherwise.

ALL LEVELS - Classes suitable for a variety of skill levels. Please modify postures for your level of practice.   Including basic foundational yoga emphasizing asanas with awareness of breath and good form.  Also include intermediate level practice with more variety of asanas such as sun salutations, basic standing poses, backbends and forward bends with the use of props. Emphasis is continuously on expanding and deepening skills, improving strength, flexibility, and balance.

BELLY DANCING – This fun, low-impact workout strengthens and tones the entire body while developing balance and grace. Class is suitable for beginning, as well as experienced, students.

CHAIR DANCE & FLOORWORK – Using a chair as a dance partner, this dance and fitness class improves core strength while toning and firming your entire body. Classes also include warmup and cool down, and a small choreographed take-home routine. Class is suitable for beginning, as well as experienced, students. (Note: This is offered as a private or group class by appointment only.)

HOOP DANCING – Hoop dancing is a form of creative movement that combines ecstatic dance, meditation, exercise and play. Hooping with larger, hand-crafted versions of the traditional hula hoop massages, exercises and tones the body, and offers a cleansing, healing practice. Suitable for beginners and experienced hoopers.

VINYASA FLOW YOGA – Sweat and have fun in this energetic, dynamic class that includes core work, playful posture flows that align breath and movement, and challenging poses that build strength and flexibility.

GENTLE YOGA - A slower paced class with gentle stretches, modified postures using props, basic breathing exercises and restorative poses. Student must be able to get up and down with ease form the floor.

KUNDALINI YOGA – An ancient and powerful practice that is challenging to anyone but doable for everyone. Through relaxing stretches, energizing postures, breath and specific meditations, these classes help us align us with those universal energies critical in achieving prosperity. Classes end with a healing relaxation, often accompanied by the vibration of an ancient gong. All levels and ages welcome.

TAI CHI CHIH – a set of movements focused on the development of an intrinsic energy called Chi. Easy to learn, this “Joy through Movement” does not require a particular level of physical fitness or coordination. The very old and very young alike can learn it. For those with physical limitations, movements may be done seated with some modification. No special clothing or equipment is required.

HOT YOGA - Enjoy classical yoga, while gently warming your muscles in a heated  room. Each posture prepares your body for the next one, using core-based training in  the Kripalu tradition.  Postures will be consistent in each class. The room is not heated  above 98 degrees.  If you have any high- or low-blood pressure issues, please consult with your physician before taking this class.

To help you get the most out of hot yoga:

  • Avoid eating a heavy meal the day of class, and try not to eat within 1 hour before class start time.
  • Hydrate well with water/clear liquids throughout the morning/day before class.
  • Bring your own sticky mat and large beach-sized towel or mat that is designed for hot yoga.
  • Mats and towels are available for rent at $2 each.
  • Wear stretchy yoga wear

CLASS COSTS & INFORMATION

All classes are taught by sensitive, well trained teachers and are suitable for all levels of practice.
Classes run approximately 90 minutes. Wear comfortable clothing, with a stretchy waist. Avoid eating a large meal before class.
Please refrain from the use of fragrances, as some people are sensitive or allergic to them.
